What Happens in a 90-Minute Energy Healing Session — And Why the First Twenty Minutes Surprise Almost Everyone

6 July 2026

Most people who book their first energy healing session arrive with a version of the same quiet anxiety. They know what they are hoping for — some shift in what has not shifted through other means — but they are not entirely sure what they are walking into. Some have done a little research. Some have not. Almost all of them carry a picture in their mind that does not quite match what the session will actually be.

That picture is understandable. Energy healing carries a cultural image — dim lighting, perhaps some talk of chakras — that does not map easily onto the experience of a high-achieving professional who would like to resolve a specific, concrete problem. And because the gap between expectation and reality can be reason enough not to book at all, it is worth describing exactly what happens in a session. Not in general terms. In specific ones.

What follows is an honest account of how a 90-minute EFT and energy healing session with me actually unfolds — what we do, in what order, and what most clients notice by the time it ends.

The First Twenty Minutes: Not What You Expect

Most therapeutic processes begin with intake: forms, history, presenting problem, goals. A session with me begins differently. There is a brief form, and it captures the practical essentials. But the actual beginning of the work happens in the first twenty minutes of the session itself, and it is not what most clients anticipate.

We talk. Not about everything — not a case history, not a life review. We talk about the specific thing that is present for you right now. Not the entire story, but the part of the story that is alive today. The pattern that showed up this week. The decision you cannot make. The feeling that arrived without announcement and has not left. The conversation you are still running in your head from months ago.

What I am listening for in this exchange is not primarily what you say. It is what activates beneath what you say — where your energy changes, where your breath shifts, where the quality of your attention becomes slightly different. The nervous system communicates before the mind finds language for it, and this opening conversation is where I begin to understand what we are actually working with.

Most clients are surprised by this. They expected to be guided through a structured exercise. Instead they find themselves in a real conversation with someone paying a very particular kind of attention. That attention is not incidental to the work. It is the beginning of it.

By the end of those twenty minutes, we both have a clearer picture of what to target — and it is often not quite what the client named at the outset. The presenting issue is almost always real. But beneath it there is usually something more specific: a memory, a moment, a belief encoded in the body long before words were available for it. That specificity is what makes the EFT effective.

This is where the real work begins — and the best way I know to describe it is that we become detectives together. We are both looking for something. We are both following the evidence. Neither of us knows in advance exactly where it leads, but we are both in it — and that shared investigation is what makes the difference between a session that scratches the surface and one that reaches the root.

The Setup: Making Contact With What Is Actually There

Once we have identified the target — the specific memory, sensation, belief, or emotional charge we are working with — the tapping begins.

In my practice, EFT is not administered as a protocol. I do not hand you a script to read or walk you through a standard sequence that is disconnected from what is present for you in this session. The setup statement — the spoken acknowledgement that opens each round of tapping — is constructed from your own language, your own description of your experience, and the specific quality of what is alive in your body right now.

This matters more than it sounds. The amygdala — the part of the brain running the threat response that maintains the pattern — does not respond to general statements. It responds to specificity. "Even though I have this anxiety" is a starting point. "Even though I have this tightening in my chest that arrives every time I sit down to send that invoice, and some part of me knows this feeling started long before invoicing was ever part of my life" — that is where the work reaches.

You will tap on the acupressure points on your face, collarbone, and the sides of your fingernails while I guide you through the language. The points correspond to meridian endpoints studied in traditional Chinese medicine and increasingly examined within Western biofield research. The act of tapping while holding a specific charged material in conscious awareness sends a calming signal to the amygdala — interrupting the stress response while the emotional content is present and active, rather than remembered from a safe analytical distance.

This is the mechanism. What it feels like in practice is something different from what most people anticipate. Not dramatic. Not cathartic in the cinematic sense. More often: a quiet loosening. A softening of something that was held tight. A breath that goes slightly deeper than it has been going for a while.

The Middle: Following the Thread Together

EFT is most effective when it follows the charge rather than the story. This is the part of a session that clients most often describe afterward as unexpected — and it is where the detective work becomes most active.

We begin with what you named. And then, as the initial charge reduces, something else surfaces. This is normal — it is how the system works. The first layer of a pattern is rarely the whole pattern; it is the part that was most accessible. As the emotional activation decreases, the nervous system releases enough to allow what is underneath to become visible. And this is where your participation matters enormously.

This is a joint investigation. I am not doing something to you while you wait to feel better. We are working together — you bringing what you notice in your body, your honest reactions, your willingness to follow a lead even when it seems unrelated to why you came; me tracking what is shifting in the energy of the session, asking the question that opens the next door, and calibrating the tapping to what surfaces in real time. The better you play in full — the more completely you show up to the investigation — the further we can go together. Half-presence produces partial results. Full presence, full curiosity, full honesty with what is actually there: that is what produces the breakthroughs clients describe afterward.

Sometimes what surfaces is an earlier memory — one you did not expect to be relevant and may not have thought about in years. This is not a detour. It is the detective work finding its source. Sometimes it is a belief that has been operating invisibly beneath multiple areas of life, not only the one you came in to address. Sometimes it is a physical sensation — a tightness, a heaviness, a quality of feeling in the body that has never been named but has been present for a very long time. We treat all of it as evidence and we follow it.

Not with urgency and not with a predetermined conclusion. The session goes where the healing is, not where either of us assumed it would go. That openness — your willingness to be surprised by what we find — is the single quality that most reliably determines how much shifts in a session.

For many clients, this is the point at which something they did not expect to address begins to resolve. A client who came to work on a pricing block finds herself tapping on a specific memory of being told, at nine years old, that wanting more was greedy. A client who came to address performance anxiety traces it to a single afternoon, decades earlier, when something he loved was met with ridicule. The presenting issue is real. The root is older. And because we followed the evidence rather than staying with the surface story, EFT reaches both.

The Final Phase: Integration

The last portion of the session is not more tapping. It is integration.

Once the primary charge has reduced — and most clients experience a measurable shift within the session, often moving from an eight or nine on a scale of ten to a two or three — we take time for the system to settle. This means some quiet conversation about what shifted, what the client notices now that was not accessible an hour ago, and what has become clear that was previously obscured.

Sometimes there is grief alongside the relief — a recognition of how long something was carried. Sometimes there is quiet surprise: "I did not realise how much that was affecting everything." Sometimes there is simply a stillness that the client has not felt in a very long time.

I do not rush this part. The nervous system integrates change at its own pace, and pressing toward a tidy conclusion before the system has finished processing is counterproductive. A session ends when it has actually ended — not when the clock runs out.

Before we close, I offer specific guidance on what to expect in the days that follow and, where relevant, a simple self-practice technique for use if the pattern resurfaces between sessions. Most clients find that what shifted in the session continues to shift in the days afterward. Sleep often changes within forty-eight hours. The decision that felt impossible before the session frequently becomes clear within a day or two. The conversation that was dreaded often becomes, simply, a conversation.

What Clients Have Experienced: Four Real Accounts

The following are drawn directly from testimonials published at eftsolution.com/clients. They are shared here to give you a sense of the range and nature of this work — not as a promise of any specific outcome, as every session is shaped by what the client brings and what surfaces in the investigation.

The lifelong skeptic with multiple serious health conditions. Steve Katz describes himself as someone who has been skeptical about these things all his life. He came to sessions carrying IBS, type 2 diabetes with hypoglycemic episodes, serious coughing from interstitial lung disease, ocular migraines, and an essential tremor in his hands — all simultaneously, while away from home in Mexico. He agreed to try after watching his wife's severe knee pain diminish significantly following a single session. The work was done entirely at distance. We communicated weekly, following what surfaced, adjusting as his system responded. Over the course of the engagement, he reported his diabetes came under better control, his stomach settled, the tremor became minimal, the coughing reduced significantly, and he lost weight. His verdict, from a lifelong skeptic: "I'm a little less skeptical now." — Steve Katz

The client who followed the thread back to what she had not expected to find. P.C. arrived carrying emotional weight that had shaped her sleep, her sense of purpose, and her capacity to stay present in difficult moments. In session, we returned to some of her earliest memories — not with dread, but with curiosity and without judgment. As one memory surfaced, others connected to it, the thread leading further than either of us had anticipated at the outset. The physical releases were tangible: heat and tingling moving through the body, sometimes the need to stand and move as something long-held finally discharged. She describes her daily life now as more precious and more connected, and traces that change directly to the willingness of both of them to follow the thread wherever it led. — P.C., New York

The bestselling author who discovered what had been hidden. Kim Griffith, an international bestselling author, described the work as having an amazing way of tapping into the darkest corners of the mind — the places where, as she put it, you have hidden things even from yourself. Over eleven weeks, the limiting beliefs and patterns that had kept her feeling cocooned began to shift — gradually at first, then unmistakably. She described the process as one she did not even realise was happening until one day the clarity arrived. "I am not the same person who began eleven weeks ago," she wrote, "but have grown into a better, happier, more comfortable version of me." — Kim Griffith, International Bestselling Author

The professional who came feeling stuck and left with a different sense of what was possible. Mona Sharma, a Regional Vice President working in health and wellness, arrived describing a persistent feeling of being stuck — something her professional knowledge of holistic practice had identified but never given her the tools to release. In one session, following the thread from the surface complaint to the specific limiting belief operating beneath it, the pattern cleared. She described stepping into a bigger version of herself — not through effort or strategy, but through the release of what had been in the way. "I no longer feel stuck," she wrote. — Mona Sharma, Regional Vice President, Arbonne

Practical Details

Sessions are 90 minutes and conducted via video. This is not a compromise — remote delivery has been central to my practice for many years, and the results speak for themselves. The testimonials on this site come overwhelmingly from people who worked with me at distance, many of whom experienced profound shifts without ever being in the same room. Clients often find that being in their own space — somewhere already associated with safety and familiarity — makes it easier to access what needs to be accessed.

You do not need to prepare anything specific. You do not need a clearly defined presenting problem, though having one helps. You do not need any prior experience with EFT or energy healing. You do not need to believe it will work before you try it.

What you do need is a quiet space, ninety minutes, and a genuine willingness to show up as a full participant in the investigation. The session works in proportion to what you bring to it. Curiosity about what surfaces. Honesty about what you notice in your body, even when it seems trivial or unrelated. A readiness to follow the thread wherever it leads, rather than steering it toward the answer you came in expecting. That quality of full engagement is what makes us an effective team — and it is the variable that most reliably determines how much changes.

The Question Beneath the Question

Most people who research energy healing before booking are not really asking what happens in a session. They are asking a quieter question beneath that one: will this actually do anything for me?

The honest answer — the only answer worth giving — is that I do not know until we work together. What I know from over 20 years of working with people who arrived sceptical, exhausted, and often convinced that nothing would shift, is this: the work consistently reaches what other approaches have not reached. Not always in a single session. Not always in the way the client anticipated. But consistently, in a direction that moves toward the life that was there all along, waiting on the other side of what has been in the way.

That is what a session is for. And that, if you are ready, is where we begin.
